Crazy, busy!

May thru August – WOW! What a summer!

Crazy, busy to get ready to leave for Philmont Scout Ranch where we both had summer jobs! I had to be there by May 20 to check in.

Crazy weather – we had rain and hail on the two day drive to Philmont. Then on June 2, we had 11 different hailstorms during the day. It looked almost like it had snowed.

Then began the busy summer, campers arrived and we were crazy, busy! The entire summer seemed to fly by. We didn’t have time to work on the website. Now it’s time to try and catch y’all up on the adventure so far.

In June, we were able to help “crew” a ballon at the Angel Fire Balloon Festival. It was too windy that day, so we didn’t even have a chance to fly. But a pretty cool way to spend the day. Our friends, the Stokes gave us a tour of Angel Fire. We also took the ski lift to the top and hiked around at the top! All of this before lunch!

On another one of our few days off together (I think we had 8 in total), we hiked to Lover’s Leap in July (on Philmont property).

On another of those days off in August, we ventured into Colorado to go to Great Sand Dunes National Park. After taking the scenic route up to Colorado, we stopped to grab some lunch at a local diner. It seemed to take a long time to get our food, but that turned out in hindsight to be an excellent thing. By the time we got parked at Great Sand Dunes and headed out to walk thru the stream and over to the sand dunes, there was a storm moving in from several miles away and it cooled things off so we could walk barefoot across the sand.
